Helping Horsforth fall back in love with tap water, one Refill station at a time
We want to encourage people who live and work in Horsforth to refill their water bottle, rather than buying a single-use plastic bottle. Refill is a free tap water initiative designed to reduce plastic pollution and promote healthy hydration by making refilling a water bottle easy, social and rewarding!
The problem with plasticIt's everywhere! The statistics are eye-watering. 300 million tons of plastic produced globally each year, and at least 8 million tons end up in the ocean because our waste systems are not fit for purpose.
Plastic production has doubled in the last 10 years and continues to rise, whilst recycling only deals with a tiny fraction of the plastic waste that’s piling up around us. Unless mass behaviour change happens, the plastic crisis is only going to get worse. Half of all plastic produced is for single-use purposes. That includes bottles, food packaging, coffee cups, straws, bags, condiment sachets and take-away serve ware. It’s very likely you have thrown away several single-use items of plastic today, whether consciously or not. Yet as individuals it’s important we recognise we have the power to make changes in our lives that add up to a BIG difference – over the weeks, months and years – resulting in less plastic waste making its way to the ocean. Join in the Refill revolution!
Did you know 1,000,000 plastic bottles are bought every minute?
Thats a lot of single-use plastic, and less than half is recycled. We’ve all heard of the phase; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. With Refill, we’re going straight in at number 1. Reduce! By refilling bottles we take away the need for recycling, which in itself is a complicated process when it comes to plastics.
